Researchers from NOVA Medical School among the most cited in the world in 2023

Five researchers and professors from NOVA Medical School were recently recognized in the prestigious "World’s Top 2% Scientists Ranking," published annually by Stanford University, for being among the most cited scientists in the world.

This ranking, based on the Scopus database — the world's largest database of abstracts and citations of scientific publications — includes two distinct categories: the first accounts for career-long citations, and the second focuses on citations from the past year (2023). It covers 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields, considering the influence and impact of academic research.

Among the NOVA Medical School researchers are, as in the previous year, Miguel Seabra and João Conde, who appear in both categories, and Winchil Vaz, who is distinguished on the career list.

This year, the list of most citations in 2023 also recognizes researchers Otília Vieira and Raffaella Gozzelino, reflecting the growing quality of scientific production at NOVA Medical School and its recognition by peers in their respective research areas.

It is worth noting that this year, NOVA shows a significant increase in the number of listed researchers, with 86 recognised, compared to 78 last year – a 10% increase. This growth reflects the university’s upward trajectory, with the number of NOVA researchers in the ranking nearly tripling over the past three years, further solidifying its position in the global scientific landscape.
