There is an open call for applications for a Research Grant (BI), for the conduct of R&D activities by a PhD student or a graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree enrolled in a course non-leading to an academic degree, under reference SAI/2022/06 in the scope of the project EXPL/MED-NEU/0733/2021, at the institution Faculdade de Ciências Médicas|NOVA Medical School (FCM|NMS), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL), supported by income from the above mentioned project financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT, I.P.).

Field of study: Neurosciences and chronic diseases

 

Admission requirements (eligibility criteria):      

- Bachelor or Master Degree in the area of neurosciences and/or chronic diseases and aging or related fields;

- Enrolment in a PhD or in a course non-leading to an academic degree, in the area of neurosciences and/or chronic diseases and aging or related fields; (The Proof of enrolment in a PhD Degree or in a course non-leading to an academic degree, in the area of neurosciences and/or chronic diseases and aging or related fields could be obtained until contracting. The assessment made here will only take into account if the candidates meet the conditions for enroling in a PhD Degree or in a course non-leading to an academic degree in accordance with the work plan of the grant.)

- Experience working with rodents, including evaluation of metabolic and cardiorespiratory parameters in vivo and surgical procedures;

- Experience in evaluating in vivo the neuronal activity of peripheral nerves;

- Animal experimentation course according to FELASA references.

Work plan:

- Rodent manipulation, that include metabolic evaluation in conscious animals;

- in vivo evaluation of cardiorespiratory parameters; surgery procedures, such as, catheterization of small vessels and implantation of electrodes in the carotid sinus nerve, the carotid body sensitive nerve;

- Perform in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiological recordings of the carotid sinus nerve.
