NOVA Medical School organises lecture on gene therapy for rare diseases

07-Jun-2024

On June 7, at 2 p.m., NOVA Medical School will host Professor Clévio Nóbrega, from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and ABC-RI at the University of the Algarve, for the lecture "Tackling rare diseases with gene therapy", in the Manuel Machado Macedo Auditorium.

During this initiative, Professor Clévio Nóbrega will bring examples of some of his research to exemplify the potential of gene therapy in the development of disease-modifying therapies, but also to highlight some of the challenges facing the area.

According to the European Commission, rare diseases affect at least one in every 2,000 people. In the majority of cases (around 80%), these diseases are genetic and, in theory, are good candidates for gene therapy.

The session will take place in person, but will also be broadcast via zoom, if you can't be there in person, via this link and with the code 459217.
