Nélia is a doctor from NOVA Medical School|Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NMS|UNL); and a pharmacist from Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra (FFUC). Nélia holds a PhD in Clinical Research from NMS|FCM in Clinical Research/Epidemiology of Rheumatologic Diseases, specifically " The Burden of Low Back Pain in Portuguese Population: a population based study under the scope of EpiReumaPt".
As Professor, she was the Education Coordinator of the Master Course "Management of Clinical Research" (MEGIC), provided by Universidade NOVA and Universidade de Aveiro; and she also coordinated the "Post Graduate course of Pharmaceutical Medicine" of NMS|UNL. Nélia Gouveia also collaborated as Professor at Doctoral Programme in Medicine and at PhD Programme in Mechanisms of Disease and Regenerative Medicine.
As Investigator, Nélia Gouveia was the Coordinator Founder & Lead of the Clinical Trial Unit of UNL (NOVA CRU), since 2014, supporting and implementing several clinical studies at a national and international level. Moreover, she was the Study Coordinator and Manager of EpiReumaPt Study - a population-based large study of Rheumatic Diseases performed in portugal, leaded by Sociedade Portuguesa de Reumatologia (2009-2014). In 2021 she was the responsible by the winner proposal of CoLab TRIALS (Laboratório Colaborativo), a project that started in August of 2021 with public and private Institutions.
Nélia Gouveia is also author of several scientific articles in national and international publications and has wan some national prizes of clinical research (Prémio Dor Grunenthal 2015 (1º lugar - 1ª autora)); Grande Prémio Bial 2017 (3º autora)). In the past, she was Consultant for Clinical Research in Portuguese College of Pharmacists (Ordem dos Farmacêuticos) (2018-2021). Nélia also collaborated in National Ethics Committee for Clinical Research (2009-2011). Before that (2003-2009) Nélia Gouveia was responsible for pharmaceutical training in Associação Nacional das Farmácias.
