One Health: Human and Animal Public Health

Developed in partnership with NOVA University Lisbon (Faculty of Medical Sciences | NOVA Medical School) and the University of Évora, the Uma Saúde Master's Degree: Human and Animal Public Health aims to strengthen the professional and academic skills of applicants with diverse backgrounds, whose actions have a direct or indirect impact on Public Health.
One Health is a methodology and working tool that aims to train people to implement actions capable of fostering collaboration between different sectors and thus promoting the health of all of us and our surroundings (public health). The One Health concept is not new and the practice of many human and animal health professionals has mirrored the concept all over the world.

This master's degree has been designed to provide the main tools for students to be able to navigate the complexities of characterizing and monitoring communicable diseases between humans and animals, within their ecosystems.  

It aims to strengthen candidates' capacity for analysis, critical interpretation of information, intervention and decision-making, using their own experience whenever appropriate. 

  • In-depth knowledge of public health, including epidemiology, disease prevention and health promotion. 
  • Ability to analyze and interpret epidemiological data in order to identify health patterns and trends. 
  • Ability to develop and implement public health policies, considering human and animal health in an integrated manner. 
  • Knowledge of the main human and animal diseases, as well as their causes, risk factors and impact on public health. 
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations related to public health, covering ethical, legal and political aspects.

Graduates in the field of health or related areas, namely medicine, veterinary medicine, sociology, nursing, biology, sanitation engineering and other related areas.
