Welcome to NOVA Medical School (NMS), where the future of health happens.
At NMS, we work to make it an open School, to people and their ideas, a qualifying school of the enormous potentiality of all its students and professionals, academic and non-academic.
NOVA Medical School is a modern and innovative Medical School based on research. A School that is concerned with providing its students with theoretical knowledge, so that they can take advantage of clinical teaching practice and truly become doctors or nutritionists.
NMS is characterized by the high professional and ethical qualification of its teachers and has been able to attract researchers of recognized prestige and high potential, thus contributing decisively to the evolution of medical education in our country and its adaptation to the new and real demands of the exercise of the medical profession.
In education, NMS has, in recent years, achieved the highest scores in the National Competition for Access to Higher Education (in Medicine in the Lisbon region and in Nutrition at a national level) and high rates of students placed in the 1st option.
We are committed to curricular innovation in the Integrated Master Degree in Medicine and to the diversity and multiculturalism of our clinical teaching, which stems from the large number of affiliated health care facilities, both in primary care and in hospital care.
According to data from ANEM (National Association of Medical Students) our School has the best teacher / student ratio in the clinical teaching of Medicine in Portugal, a fact that reveals the extreme importance we give, in the clinical context, to the student-patient-teacher triad, the cornerstone of medical learning.
The Nutrition Sciences course at NMS, largely shared with the teaching of Medicine, is a strong bet from an integrative point of view where training for the acquisition of "hands-on research skills" is possible, allowing the student to understand associations and recommendations, and ensure more holistic and effective diagnoses and intervention strategies.
Post-graduate training consisting of diversified programs - some in English and in collaboration with international organizations and foreign universities - is developed on the basis of interdisciplinary teaching, using teams from various professional areas related to health in an integrated learning environment.
Research is another success story at our Medical School, focusing on the study of chronic diseases, through bench and translational research, clinical and epidemiological research, toxicogenomics and human health, nutrition and metabolism, involving the sharing of knowledge and the collaborative work of 40 research groups.
The firm and laborious past, continued by the reformist and innovative present, opens up a scenario of a determined and vigorous future where many and varied paths of success are foreseen.
