This application call is intended for International Students wishing to apply to the Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine at NOVA Medical School.

Eligibility depends primarily on your nationality and your legal status.

 

You are considered an International Student if:
  • You do not hold Portuguese nationality, and
  • You are not covered by any of the exceptions listed below.

 

You are not considered an International Student if:
  • You hold the nationality of a Member State of the European Union (EU) or of a State party to the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement;
  • You are a family member of a Portuguese citizen or of an EU/EEA citizen, regardless of your nationality;
  • You have been legally resident in Portugal for more than two consecutive years as of January 1, 2026 (with very specific exceptions);
  • You intend to apply through special access schemes to higher education;
  • You are in Portugal under an international mobility program.

 

Frequently asked questions:
  • I have dual nationality, one of which is Portuguese or EU → you are not eligible
  • I am a foreign national but have lived in Portugal for more than 2 years → you may not be eligible
  • I am currently taking part in an Erasmus program in Portugal → you are not eligible
  • My parent / step-parent is Portuguese → you may not be eligible

  • SUPERNOVA Students - if you completed the SUPERNOVA - Foundation Programme of NOVA University Lisbon.

  • Required academic qualification

You must hold a Brazilian Ensino Médio Diploma.

 
  • Entrance Exams (two options)

You can apply if:

  • You have taken the National High School Exam (ENEM) in 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026.
  • You have achieved the minimum score in the following areas:

- Natural Sciences and their Technologies – minimum 500 points;

- Mathematics and its Technologies – minimum 500 points.

ENEM scores will be converted for ranking purposes.

If you haven’t taken ENEM, or do not meet the minimum scores:

  • You can take knowledge exams at NOVA Medical School in:

- Biology

- Physics and Chemistry

- Mathematics

 

  • Additional Mandatory Requirements

 

You must also meet:

Medical prerequisite from Group A – “Interpersonal Communication” (available here);

Proficiency in Portuguese or English: minimum B1 level (submit certificate).

 

Documents needed:

- Brazilian Ensino Médio Diploma;

- Proof of ENEM score or application for NOVA Medical School entrance exams (available here);

- Identification document or passport;

Declaration of eligibility (available here);

- B1 Portuguese or English language certificate (and a declaration committing to obtain a B2 level of Portuguese (available here).

  • Required academic qualification

You must hold a foreign Secondary Education Diploma, legally valid in the country where it was issued.

 

  • Entrance Exams (two possible scenarios)

 

You can apply if:

  • You have taken secondary school final exams considered equivalent to the Portuguese entrance exams in:

- Biology and Geology

- Physics and Chemistry

- Mathematics

  • You have achieved the minimum required score, after conversion to the Portuguese grading scale.

These exams are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, according to the grading system of your country.

If your education system does not include final exams equivalent to the Portuguese system, or if you do not meet the minimum score:

  • You must take knowledge exams at NOVA Medical School in:

- Biology

- Physics and Chemistry

- Mathematics

 

  • Additional Mandatory Requirements

 

You must also meet:

- Medical prerequisite from Group A – “Interpersonal Communication” (available here);

- Proficiency in Portuguese or English: minimum B1 level (submit certificate).

To apply, you must have completed the SUPERNOVA Pre-University Programme at NOVA University Lisbon with passing results.

 

  • Specific Academic Requirements

As part of the SUPERNOVA Programme, you must have passed the following subjects:

- Biology

- Mathematics

- Principles of Physics and Chemistry

You must also meet:

You should access the application platform (here), complete all required fields, and submit all necessary documents.

To apply, you must pay an application fee. Applications without payment are not valid and will not be considered.

If admitted, you will be required to pay the tuition fee, enrollment fee, and school insurance.

Yes. Documents issued outside Portugal must be recognized by a Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority, or presented with the Hague Apostille.

It depends. If one of your nationalities is Portuguese, or from an EU Member State or an EEA Agreement country, you cannot apply as an International Student.

This document is mandatory to enroll in the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine.

The medical declaration must be signed by a doctor registered with the Portuguese Medical Association. If you cannot obtain this document in time for your application, you may submit a provisional declaration issued by a doctor in your country of residence.

Before classes begin, you will need to provide the official Portuguese declaration.
