The Public Session of the João Monjardino Prize 2023, awarded to researcher Deborah Oyine Aluh took place in the Manuel Machado Macedo Auditorium of NOVA Medical School. The researcher is affiliate of the Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health; Comprehensive Health Research Center (CHRC), NOVA Medical School) and first author of the article “Contextual factors influencing the use of coercive measures in Portuguese mental health care”, published in the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry in 2023.
The opening session was attended by the President of the Pulido Valente Foundation (PVF), Rui Pulido Valente, the Dean of NMS, Helena Canhão, the President of FCT – Madalena Alves and the Member of the Board of Directors of PVF – Maria do Carmo Fonseca.
The award ceremony session was preceded by a round table on Biomedical Research Infrastructures: 2014 – 2024 moderated by Marta Abrantes (Department of International Relations, FCT) and João Lavinha (President of the PVF Advisory Board), where the following institutions participated:
- João Castelhano, from BIN_National Brain Imaging Network - Core Infrastructure
- Manuel Santos, from Genome Portugal_National Facility for Genome Sequencing and Analysis
- Ricardo Leite from Biodata.pt – Portuguese Biological Data Network
After the high point of the event, in which the Award Winner presented her work to the audience, there was also the signing of a protocol between Fundação Pulido Valente and AICIB, which was represented by its vice-president, Paula Macedo.
In the audience were renowned personalities such as as Professor Correia de Campos (Former Minister of Health), Professor Caldas de Almeida, Founder of LIGMH and Former Dean of NMS) and members of the Pulido Valente Monjardino family.
