American researcher Ron DePinho will be at NOVA Medical School on July 3rd to present the Ana Lázaro Award - Cancer Research Grant, where he will give a lecture entitled "Knowledge is Cancer's Greatest Vulnerability".
Ron DePinho has dedicated his life to reducing the burden of major diseases such as cancer, diabetes and age-related degenerative diseases. His contributions include groundbreaking scientific studies, training the next generation of doctors and scientists, promoting public health through advocacy and policy, and launching biopharmaceutical companies to introduce new medicines.
Ana Lázaro - Cancer Research Scholarship aims to stimulate translational research developed by interdisciplinary teams at NOVA Medical School and is funded by the family of Ana Lázaro, an acclaimed Spanish dancer and choreographer who, in her legacy, set aside part of her inheritance to advance cancer research.
The ceremony will also include a round table on the theme: 'Transdisciplinary Collaboration in Cancer Research and Treatment: Challenges and Opportunities' with the presence of Cellmabs founder Paula Videira, CHRC medical oncologist Isabel Fernandes, Targtex CEO João Seixas and EVITA Cancer president Tamara Milagre.
The grant has a total value of €210,000 (two hundred and ten thousand euros), which will be distributed over three research projects worth €70,000 (seventy thousand euros), to be awarded in 2024, 2025 and 2026 (one project per year).
