I am biochemist currently working at the Chronic Diseases Research Centre (CEDOC) of the NOVA University Lisbon (Portugal). I have a strong background in Biochemistry (BSc, University of Lisbon) and a keen interest in the biochemical pathways of human disease (MSc & PhD in Medical Biochemistry, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands). During my PhD studies I investigated the role of lysosomal homeostasis in neurodegeneration. Afterwards, I developed a 3-year PostDoctoral Project at the University of Kiel (Germany) centered on Batten disease (NCL2TREAT, Consortium), the most common inherited neurodegenerative disease in children. In 2018, I was awarded the CEECIND contract by FCT to develop a project investigating the role of lysosomal dysfunction in atherosclerosis at CEDOC.
