Henrique is graduated in Biochemistry and started his scientific career studying the proteolytic mechanisms in eye lens, when ubiquitin dependent lysosomal degradation was in its infancy. He has been actively involved in deciphering the mechanisms and strategies used by the cells to exchange information, particularly in the heart. Both short-range and long-distance communication have been his passion, with exosomes deserving a special place.
Fun fact: Henrique is owner of a beautiful Portuguese sheepdog, his company for long daily walks, during which Henrique forgets science and enjoys listening to the last electronic music releases
