Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP)

Under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) funds, NMS, has several projects underway spread across several measures.

Measure 06 – Civic & Global

“Impulso Jovens STEAM” and “Impulso Adultos” Programs

In the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), a set of reforms and investments have been defined that contribute to increase the participation of young people in higher education, to graduate the population and to increase research and development in Portugal, reinforcing the goal of convergence with Europe over the next decade.

In this context, the "Impulso Jovens STEAM" and "Incentivo Adultos" programs aim to support initiatives to be developed by higher education institutions (HEIs), in partnership or consortium with companies, public and/or private employers and including municipalities and local, regional and national public entities:

  • «Impulso Jovens STEAM» aims to promote and support initiatives exclusively oriented to increase the higher degrees of young people, through the offer of degrees and other initial training of higher scope. At NMS, we are in the process of completely redesigning the curriculum of our Integrated Master of Medicine (MIM) to prepare the next generations of physicians for the healthcare of the future and for a variety of career options available to them. With the redesigned MIM it will introduce a range of innovative, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, including team-based learning, simulation, literacy and digital health integration based on international best practices.

  • «Incentivo Adultos» aims to support the conversion and upgrading of skills of working adults through short-term higher education, initial and post-graduate training, as well as lifelong learning, in three main areas chosen for their strategic fit with NOVA's new health campus and vision for the future of health; relevance for labor market outcomes; and contribution to the growth and internationalization of the health care, pharmaceutical and health technology sectors in Portugal.

The project at NMS in measure 6 of the RRP - Qualifications and Competences - consists in fostering two transversal projects at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa:

  • Transformative Learning for Future-proof Professionals, addressing the skills deficit emerging from the global challenges described above;

  • Organizational Transformation for Academic Success and Employability, performing a transversal implementation at NOVA of student/participant centered employment creation strategies and systems, promoting inclusion and guaranteeing fair access to NOVA programs and initiatives.

The project is also based on four components already underway at NOVA:

  1. The ongoing internal digital transformation of systems, processes and operations;
  2. The pervasiveness of technology-enhanced learning for open and inclusive education;
  3. Operational excellence to ensure that NOVA executes its employability promotion strategy efficiently and effectively;
  4. A scholarship and mentoring system to ensure fair access to STEAM skills.

The project investment by UNL amounts to €12.9 million, excluding VAT, of which approximately €1,716,231 million will be applied at NMS under the "Impulso Jovem STEAM"and €2,369,769 million under the "Incentivo Adultos".
