NOVA Medical School students win awards at the Portuguese Congress on Obesity

Inês Castela and Vanessa Pereira were the two students of NOVA Medical School distinguished with Awards at the congress of the Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity (SPEO)

The award were attributed on November 19th and 20th, as part of the 25th Portuguese Congress on Obesity, promoted by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity (SPEO).

Inês Castela, from the Masters in Human Nutrition and Metabolism, won the Best Oral Communication Award in the “Obesity and Comorbidities” category, which recognized the work “Effects of intermittent energy restriction or continuous energy restriction on metabolic disease risk markers in obese adults”.

Vanessa Pereira, a student of the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences,  distinguished herself with the Prize for Best Oral Communication in the “Nutrition” category, with the work “Assessing the efficacy of a Weight Loss Program for Adults with Obesity: Preliminary results after 1 month".

The national prevalence of obesity is 22.3% and 34.8% in the case of pre-obesity, so the NOVA team in Metabolism and Nutrition is committed in the study of these themes, for the benefit of science and society.
