World Water Day 2022


Today, the World Water Day raises awareness of the importance of this food and the fact that more than 2 billion people do not have access to clean water. Thus, one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is for universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.

A daily water intake of 1.5 to 2.0 liters is recommended, for general population. It should be noted that the Portuguese population drinks, on average, less than 1.0 liter of water per day, considering only drinking water, and children are the age group that consume the least amount of water.

Water is essential to life. Know at least 6 good reasons to increase your water consumption:

  1. Optimize intellectual performance
  2. Improve focus and concentration
  3. Prevent headache and irritability
  4. Promotes good bowel function
  5. Improve physical performance
  6. Helps in weight control

One of the principles of the Mediterranean Diet is to drink water throughout the day, and it should be the preferred drink with meals. As food we must also vary in its source and degree of mineralization. Furthermore, to reach a good state of hydration, you can opt for herbal infusions or tea without added sugar.
