NOVA Medical School obtains its first certification from the international My Green Lab program

25-Nov-2025

The Metabolism and Nutrition Laboratory at NOVA Medical School has become the first in the institution to achieve the My Green Lab certification, mediated in Portugal by Zero Waste Lab, achieving 99% compliance and obtaining the “Green” level - the highest awarded by this internationally recognized program.

The certification is the result of an initiative coordinated by the Vice-Rector for Sustainability at NOVA University Lisbon, Professor Júlia Seixas, who brought together several of its Organic Units to implement measures in line with the strict sustainability criteria defined by the program. At NOVA Medical School, the Green Labs team - Ana Faria, Catarina Martins, and Manuela Correia - with the support of researchers and collaborators, promoted significant improvements in the areas of energy, water, and waste management, while also reinforcing sustainable practices in procurement, travel, and animal research.

This recognition now paves the way for the program to be expanded to other laboratories and research groups at NOVA Medical School, with the aim of consolidating a culture of sustainability across the entire academic community.

By achieving the highest level of certification, NOVA Medical School joins the group of institutions from more than 50 countries that have adopted the My Green Lab program as an international benchmark for sustainability in scientific research environments.
