European Researchers’ Night 2025

26-Sep-2025

NOVA Medical School will take part in another edition of the European Researchers’ Night, in three different initiatives. This year’s topics will explore areas such as nutrition and health promotion, sustainability in biomedical research, and communication between the body and the brain.

PROGRAM

National Museum of Natural History and Science
5:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

  • Biomedical research: from everyone to everyone
In an interactive way, participants will be able to follow the process from the collection of biological samples to the isolation, “cultivation,” and characterization of cells for different studies and objectives in biomedical research. They will also have the chance to see cells under the microscope (including their own mouth cells!), prepare blood samples, and learn how the components of this vital fluid that runs through our circulatory system are separated.
  • How sustainable are you?
A science station on implementing sustainability measures in scientific activity. Using an interactive game, participants will learn how to improve scientific activity in terms of sustainability, from adjusting the temperature of certain equipment to the inventory and management of chemicals and samples.

Oeiras Marina
4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

  • How does diet influence the microorganisms that live in our gut?
Through an interactive game, each participant will be able to “fish” for foods and decide whether they would make their gut happy or sad—that is, whether they have a positive or negative effect on intestinal microbiota.

Pavilhão do Conhecimento (Pavilion of Knowledge)
7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

  • The Body in Dialogue: Metabolism, Brain, and Emotions at Play
How do our body and brain communicate with each other? How do obesity and diabetes affect this vital connection? Through interactive games, microscope observations, and quizzes, topics such as metabolism, glucose regulation, the effects of physical exercise, the benefits of mushrooms, and much more will be explored.
