The British Embassy in Lisbon, in partnership with NOVA Medical School and Nova SBE Health Economics & Management Knowledge Centre, from NOVA University, launched today, February 21st, the report "Health Equals Wealth: maximizing the longevity dividend in Portugal ", produced by the International Longevity Center, during the 5th UK-Portugal Forum on Healthy Aging: economic and social opportunities, which took place in the Sala dos Atos at NOVA Medical School.
The event, attended by the United Kingdom Ambassador to Portugal, Lisa Bandari and the Dean of NOVA Medical School, Helena Canhão, included three thematic panels focused on investment in health, the economy and informal care, allowed the sharing of experiences and best practices and brought together experts, decision-makers, researchers, associations and companies in a debate on the economic and social opportunities - and not just the challenges - of ageing.
In the words of Helena Canhão, the event took place in a spirit of collaboration and enlightenment, with a shared commitment to advancing the science and practice of healthy ageing. The journey towards longevity is not just a medical challenge, but a social opportunity to enhace the quality of life across the lifespan and should be an opportunity to forge new partnerships, share knowledge, and envision a future where healthy ageing is an accessible reality for all.
Among the panel moderators and speakers are Francisco George, President of the Portuguese Society of Public Health, Pedro Pita Barros, Professor and Coordinator of the Nova SBE Health Economics & Management Knowledge Centre, George McGinnis, from the UKRI Healthy Ageing, Heidi Karjalainen, from the Institute for Fiscal Studies, UK, Nuno Marques, Coordinator of the Healthy and Active Ageing Action Plan, among others.
The closing ceremony was carried out by the United Kingdom Ambassador to Portugal and Nuno Marques, in representation of the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.
