NOVA Medical School and Diaverum Portugal have compiled a free guide containing more than 90 recipes tailored to the specific needs of people suffering from chronic kidney disease. The e-book MedCook Book – Health at the table: Nutrition tailored to chronic kidney patients includes starters, main courses, desserts, and snacks developed by medical and nutrition science students.
The practical guide brings together recipes created by medical and nutrition science students, adapted to the specific needs of chronic kidney patients. Written in simple and useful language, the e-book helps patients, family members, and caregivers manage their diet in a balanced way, promoting autonomy and quality of life.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a growing public health challenge, with a major impact on patients' lives. Proper nutrition plays an essential role not only in prevention, but also in the management and progression of the disease, making access to clear, accurate, and applicable information on a daily basis essential.
“This book is more than a dietary guide—it is a true companion on the journey of adapting to a new way of life. We want to simplify nutrition for kidney disease and show that it is possible to take care of your health with pleasure and satisfaction at the table, with your family,” says Conceição Calhau, Vice Dean of NOVA Medical School.
Sofia Correia de Barros, Managing Director of Diaverum Portugal, adds: “Care goes far beyond clinical treatment—it also involves empowering patients to live with greater quality and autonomy, and ensuring that caregivers and professionals, in this case nutritionists, are empowered to contribute to this same goal. This e-book reflects our commitment to promoting a humanized approach based on scientific evidence, where adapted nutrition plays an essential role in the full life of chronic kidney patients."
The e-book includes not only recipes, but also introductory chapters written by teams from NOVA Medical School and Diaverum Portugal, offering an integrated view of the importance of diet in managing CKD and the positive impact of adapted nutrition on patients' quality of life.
