The Clinical Investigator Training Program took place at NMS on the 20th and 21st of January and was conducted by experts from NMS and Aga Khan University.
The CITP - Clinical Investigator Training Program, coordinated by Hélder Dores, professor at NMS, covered a comprehensive face-to-face agenda with various topics, including ethics of clinical trials, development and writing of clinical protocols, budget for clinical trials and statistical concepts applied to clinical research. In addition to this face-to-face phase of the course, the next few months will be dedicated to 8 additional modules, through an online platform that allows knowledge to be monitored and tested. Twenty-five professors from NOVA Medical School, medical specialists and interns, had the opportunity to participate in the first edition of the CITP, taught by nine professors from our school and four professors from the Aga Khan University of Nairobi and Karachi.
Helena Canhão, NMS Dean, emphasizes that "since research is one of the fundamental pillars of the NMS, investing in specific training in this area is proof that the institution is increasingly committed to training teachers in the best tools for a clinical practice combined to research, with practical application in the patient."
The deep engagement of Aga Khan University members in this intensive training reinforces the alliance between the two institutions. Mansoor Saleh, Director of the Clinical Investigator Training Program at Aga Khan University Nairobi, led and accompanied all training and played a key role in sharing good practices and his experience in this field.
