Bachelor's Degree in Biology and PhD in Materials Science and Technology - Biomaterials at the University of Minho, obtained in collaboration with the Universities of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia, USA, followed by post-doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania, at the Scheie Eye Institute/ FM Kirby Institute of Ophthalmology, under the guidance of Jean Bennett.
During the second year of her post-doctorate she integrates the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine at the University of Algarve as Visiting Assistant Professor. The following year (2009) integrates the faculty of the same department exclusively, and starts her research group at the Center for Molecular and Structural Biomedicine (CBME) at the University of Algarve.
In 2015 joins the faculty of NOVA Medical School | Faculty of Medical Sciences, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, as an assistant professor and also its research center, CEDOC, as principal investigator.
