Sérgio Laranjo is a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist and Assistant Professor at NOVA Medical School, dedicated to transforming cardiovascular medicine through artificial intelligence, computational methods, and digital health innovation. His clinical and academic work focuses on improving diagnostic precision and therapeutic outcomes across diverse patient populations, with particular expertise in cardiac arrhythmias, autonomic dysfunction, and pediatric cardiology.

At Santa Marta's Hospital, ULS São José, he leads specialized clinical services including the Paediatric Clinical Arrhythmology Section, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme, and the Syncope Unit.

At NOVA Medical School, he is also the Academic Director of the AI, Real-World Evidence & Digital Health Knowledge Centre, and Deputy Director of the Digital Data Design Institute (D³@NOVA). His research program integrates artificial intelligence for cardiovascular diagnostics, computational cardiology and advanced modeling, electrocardiographic imaging (ECGi), digital twins for personalized medicine, and signal processing methodologies for autonomic assessment. He is committed to ethical and responsible AI implementation, addressing algorithmic bias, ensuring transparency, and prioritizing clinical utility through rigorous validation and human-computer interface design.

His work translates technological innovations from research concepts into clinical reality, with measurable impact on patient outcomes. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and received multiple national and international awards. Additionaly, he is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and the American College of Cardiology (FACC), he serves on the board of the AEPC Working Group on Genetics, Basic Science and Myocardial Disease, and represents the National Reference Centre for Congenital Heart Disease in the ERN GUARD-Heart network.
