Sara Marques holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Porto (UP) and, since 2014, has served as the Executive Coordinator of the Rodent Facility at NOVA Medical School. Previously, she was responsible for the implementation and management of the new Rodent Facility infrastructure at the University of Algarve. Her scientific career began at ICBAS, UP, and included research positions at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC), the University of Algarve, and NOVA Medical School Research, Nova Medical School. She has published in the field of developmental biology, particularly in left-right axis development and cardiogenesis, and in 2005 was awarded the SPGH 2005 Award by the Portuguese Society of Human Genetics for her work as the first Portuguese author of the best-published research in Human Genetics. She is the Animal Welfare Officer and has been a member of the NOVA Medical School Animal Welfare Body (ORBEA) since 2015. She has also served as a member of the NOVA Medical School Biosafety Committee since 2016. Since 2017 she has been part of several CONGENTO consortium working groups, and a member of the CONGENTO Faculty for Education & Training in Laboratory Animal Science.
