I became deeply curious in metabolic pathways and evolution when learning early on that cells use small molecules to sustain the basic life requirements, in a remarkably regulated and conserved fashion. This led me to study biochemistry, later central carbon metabolism, RNA biology and the inborn errors of metabolism. We harness bottom-up and holistic approaches, aiming to integrate the metabolic components and their interactions to gain an understanding of mitochondrial pathophysiology from the ground up.
